St Pete Run Fest Tips

  1. Park at the Dali Museum – its very convenient and close to the race start and finish. Remember to bring cash to pay for parking. In 2021, the parking fee is $10. If you want to save money and don’t mind walking a few blocks, you can park at SouthCore parking garage.
  2. Porta-Potties – located in the Athlete’s village by the start/finish line. There are many porta-potties available.
  3. Arrive Early and Warm up – I recommend you arrive at least 45 mintues before race start. Then do a warmup run for 15 – 20 mintues.
  4. Stretch Before you Race – I recommend you stretch for 15 – 20 mintues before the race.
  5. Take an engery gel 15 mintues before the race starts.

Breakfast Tips

  • Eat a lite breakfast one to two hours before the race starts. For example, I recommend you eat carbs such a bananna or a whole grain bread product. Then drink water with electrolytes. For example, G-endurance.
  • Don’t eat something new that you have ever tried on race day. Only eat food and drinks you have already tested before race day.
  • If you drink coffee during breakfast, make sure you give yourself enough time to use the bathroom. However, I recommend you drink coffee after the race and consume caffeine using gels during the middle of your race.

When to Consume Caffeine?

Caffeine stimulates your heart rate, and you can feel the effects of caffeine within fifteen minutes after consumption. For best performance, you want a low heart rate during the beginning of the race. Thus, I recommend you delay consuming caffeine until the middle of your race. Especially, if your total running time is two or more hours.

For example, you can consume caffeinated gels an hour into a two-hour race. This can give you an energy boost in the second half of your race.
